I actually just watched and quite enjoyed it. I like that the stepmother was not stereotypically evil and actually loved her step daughters.

One issue I had was that the dragon just needed any girl who had the blood of the royal family so why was it necessary to specifically seek out girls from nobles in distant lands?

They could have drawn lots for any peasant girl and made the same cut and blood transfer. We know the marriage is not even neccesary because they skipped that when they threw the second sister in later on. This would have saved them gold and time as apparently they spent a lot of gold for Elodie.

Another solution would be for the King or Prince to sleep with a bunch of lowborn women and raise a stock of daughters with royal blood in them. It wouldn't be any more evil of an act than what they've already been doing so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't.

Otherwise it's a surprisingly entertaining film.
