In one of his sketches Michael McIntyre said that men don't know what it means when their woman says "We've been together for some time now. You've got to be a bit more romantic!"

Is this true?

It kind of baffles me as if you don't know how the heck did you manage to get your woman in the first place?

No judgement, just interest & curiosity.
If your woman said that to you would you know what to do with it?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what Michael McIntyre is referring to without seeing the sketch in context.

My first thought would be: why would someone say that to their partner in the first place? Surely they already know what their partner is like, and that's part of what attracted them to them in the beginning.

If a man isn't naturally romantic in the traditional sense, and that's been the case throughout the relationship, is it fair to expect him to suddenly change years later? Everyone expresses affection differently. Some people are all about flowers, love notes, and grand gestures, while others show love through loyalty, support, making time for their partner, or simply being there when it matters.

I think the real question is whether she's asking for more romance or trying to change who he is. There's a big difference between wanting a bit more effort and wanting someone to become a different person altogether.

Everyone is different, and what one person sees as romantic, another person may not.

I think he is having a laugh. I can't imagine a situation where a woman would say that, just seems a very strange thing to say.This Michael McIntyre is a comedian and this seems to me more of a one line joke aimed at the male sex. Insinuating men would not understand were a woman to make a comment like that. If it were to happen, most guys would probably say they had a headache.

Too many men have headaches these days, another problem in relationships :p

Michael McIntyre's success is based on him mostly making good sketched out of real life things that are recognisable for most everyone.

It's a given that for most romance & intimacy fizzle with time. This often already begins to happen once a couple has decided they're in a committed relationship.

Then when a couple has kids this adds to that dynamic. Less energy, sleepless nights, kids taking up time & attention etc. And usually way less sex.
It changes the entire vibe of a couple. In most cases.

Men don't make so much of an effort anymore for his woman. He figures he won her over so why should he?
The woman often has less time to make herself look good. Too busy working 2 jobs: the kids & household and outdoor job.

It's not for nothing that couple sometimes get the advice to have a weekly date-night to keep the fire burning!

Then back to the question that still wasn't answered: do men in long-term relationship still know how to romance their woman?
Is it enough if she says she needs and wants more romance to keep the relationship alive & kicking?
Or does she have to spell out what he has to do in order to achieve that?

When I met my mate on here 16 years ago, we talked
7 times every single day for more than a year
before we met. Long-distance romantic ;-)

From the day we met, he would kiss me about 12 times
a day, if not more. He would say 'When I see you,
I need to kiss you.'

Many years later I asked him if he still wanted to
kiss me every time he saw me. He said 'No...(long
pause here, probably to make me laugh!)..now all
I have to do is think of you and I have
to kiss you.'

This has to be the most romantic man on the planet,
he was that way when we first started talking.
One day I was sick..he promptly sent me $50 to
buy, are you ready? Chocolate milk. He thought
that cured most ills. And he knew I liked it.

A thousand times he says and does romantic
things that blow my mind.

Not normal, I tell you.

Men will show it, just not usually after they
have successfully separated you from the herd.

They think it is a tool, romanticism...haul it
out when you need it.

Well I think they are right because it IS a tool,
a very effective one, a smile-maker ;-)

To find someone to whom it comes naturally, is
a gift a woman can appreciate.

Lots of sex is important I think; but without the hugs, kisses and smiles it would be pretty sad!!

So just as important as the pleasure of sex, and maybe more so, would be the tenderness and conversations!
