The National Anthem brings me to tears.
I don't listen to whiny, sappy songs anyway but I can't imagine one that would make me cry. I only get the urge to saw my ears off or flip the station.
Bullchit. Everybody has a song that tugs at the heart strings. This always brings a tear to my eye.......

Actually...Prince wrote that!
It was still about her son
Then I guess Prince wrote it about her son!
...that was my understanding, I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. No biggie. I have no problem with being wrong at times.

I think she was thinking about her son for the video in order to cry. That video was shot in one take. That's what I heard anyway.
Prince's version can be heard on his set The Hits and B-Sides. It was a B-side. To what...I'm not sure....
No ... Sinead O'Connor's recording of Prince's song ... Nothing Compares to You???
Was not about her dead son, as none of her children have died ...
I well remember that she said, at the time, that she hadn't slept for a couple of days due to her breakup w/ her first child/son's father, John Reynolds ...
... As they'd just broken up and she and he were, both, absolutely devastated ...
He was also her music producer at the time, and had been for some time by then, so it was also a very real biz pressure mess for both ... In addition to the personal crisis ...
MUCH later, she started sayin' it made her cry as she was reflectin' upon her relationship w/ her deceased mother, whom she claimed had abused her ...
I so love her ... AND, still ... She is well known for changin' stories to suit ...
But, wanted to clarify only to make sure all know she never lost a son to death ...
Anything by John Frusciante.
(Just Another Brick In) The Wall' ... Pink Floyd ...
November Rain by Guns N' Roses
Letters from home by John Michael Montgomery
. . .
"Living years" by Mike and the mechanics
"Live like you are dying" by Tim Mcgraw
"She talks to Angels" by the Black Crowes
Just a couple out of the many that are out there.
"You Raise Me Up", the version by Josh Groban evokes emotions when I hear it. I first heard his version at the Superbowl to commemorate the shuttle astronauts. It brought me to tears because it has a spiritual aspect, coupled with Groban's powerful voice. It is the only song that has moved me to tears.
Running Away by Hoobastank. always liked it but now it hits home for me since i'm in the situation he is singing about. can't hear it without crying.
