Anybody got a definitive theory on consciousness??
So far... It ranges from electrical impulses to the soul of the being.. Would like some input....

I read a prose from a scripture which roughly translates into this

"Like two birds of golden plumage, inseparable companions, the individual self and the immortal Self are perched on the branches of the self-same tree. The former tastes of the sweet and bitter fruits of the tree; the latter, tasting of neither, calmly observes."

There are basically 2 schools on this, western and oriental schools on theory of consciousness , west doesnt differentiate mind and the consciousness where as in East consciousness is considered to be the supreme driving force or 'atman'.

So far as I've read or heard, the answer to your question from both religious and science circles, is "No."

You are all just part of my imagination. For some reason I seem to be torturing myself though. Why can't I imagine myself being talk, dark, and handsome and then making it so.

Consciousness is a survival mechanism. It keeps our species moving forward. It provides a way for people to believe they are more vital then they really are. Why else would millions of people continue having a job (Just Over Broke). Really everybody is just working to buy a car, house, etc, etc so they can live and go to their job. Hmmm.

I feel consciousness is our connection to energy. The total energy that makes up the WHOLE universe. Even the "soul" is the connection to everything. To quote Leonardo Da Vinci : "Learn how to see. Realise that everything connects to everything else". I think our consciousness is that connection...

IYou may find it hard to grasp the concept of living in the NOW where the future and past don't exist. We live in the moment and everything we think we experienced is just thoughts and nothing more. BUT it's soooo REAL lol. Dang we are great manifesters!

I believe this as I have seen things change instantly.....Eg: people changing ...and I don't mean moods or behaviors or appearance. I mean their personalities changed according to how I wanted to see them ...good or bad.
I have also witnessed the clear night sky for many days void of a moon..
I saw 2 suns in the sky 20 yrs ago and driveways appearing in my neighborhood overnight.
According to The Law Of Attraction, what we think , is what we manifest.

There is no 'definitive' theory on Consciousness and even if there were, it would still remain a 'theory'.

The awareness or perception of something by a person.
The fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world.

"Awareness by the mind" is what interests me in that definition. To me, the mind isn't the same as the soul. The Human Being is composed of "Mind, Body and Soul" so, in my opinion, Consciousness is to the Mind what the eyes would be to the brain, a natural extension of a created and living entity's own will.

I don't think there is a proven way to "prove" that you exist. My personal one is, " Cogito, ero sum". A breakdown by Rene Descarté (17th century philosopher )Latin.

One thing for sure about the subject of what consciousness is, is that it has a TON of heavy political implications involved with it.

What is LEGALLY considered to be "consciousness" is separate from a biological or a spiritual definition.

And the Moody Blues added "at least I think I am"..

I believe there are laws which govern our being just like the law of gravity, you can tell me you dont believe the law of gravity cause you cannot see it and then you could step off a building you will still fall. You can easily alter consciousness. Most people on this site are doing that right now.

..Well.. here on Earth consciousness comes in handy... being self-aware... now is it . nothing more than electrical impulse.!.hmmm.. that is just the mechanics behind it... we all experience Consciousness in a different way.... iam conscience of my surroundings my environment.. I'm aware of how I interact with my environment and how it interacts with me...now.. when we pass away.. what happens to the consciousness... I'd like to believe that. that energy goes into making up the energy for something else... but does it carry the imprint of us with it... I don't think so! what would be the point.!.. being dead and self-aware at the same time just doesn't make sense..lol... you would have no mechanism.. to interpret what you are experiencing... no brain hard drive computer.. are eyeballs to witness it with..lol

Consciousness is the result of a person taking the red pill.
