Good Day my lovely people of M2, thanks a million to all my voicers who made my last forum a mega hit, you guys are my energy source to want to keep posting, luv ya'll. Okay, lets get right into it. Let me just say this, before I proceed this topic I want to bring forward is very truly dear to me because this is dark shade on my city because of this Man. So I want you all thing universally. pretend this is your city okay. America, its been a lot of controversy going on in my city about a statue placed in front of our downtown's Municipal Building. His name is Frank Rizzo. If you not from Philadelphia the name probably don't mean much to you but to us in Philly he wasn't right ya'll. I pulled up an article up today about why Philadelphian's want this man's statue to go.

Many hated Rizzo because of his Racist extreme treatment to Black & Brown People in Philadelphians in the late 60's & early 70's. Frank Rizzo was police commissioner then Philly's mayor. Frank Rizzo was both the symbol & the substance of a racist system upheld by the law enforcement. His Police force was used to maintain racial boundaries that kept blacks trapped in red-lined communities, locked into a segregated educational system & mired in the ongoing morass of second- class citizenship. The Frank Rizzo statue must be moved to private property or it must be moved now! Then the article goes on to mention his character & why Black & Brown Philadelphian's have ill will towards his legacy & his statue. Rizzo was the first Italian American mayor of a city brimming with Italians and he did it on the strength of his personality. His shocking words made communities livid with his statement joked that his policing philosophy was "il capo", Italian for "break there heads". He used the N-word & because of some scattered actions. With racism , the accusation is enough, no proof required. It has a lot more things he did as police commissioner then mayor. But I want to drop a few more points until I get to the conclusion of this topic. With brute force, & with a few key promotions of black & brown people who would help him, Rizzo maintained Philly's racial hierarchy. those who excuse Rizzo's racial animosity because he sprinkled crumbs to a few blacks have no sense of history. For the black children who were beaten while demanding to learn black history, & the Black Panthers who were stripped naked on the streets of North philly, & the man who was beaten while screaming for a badge number, I will fight. America, Rizzo's statue must be removed from publicity funded property, Its the lease we can do for all the people he abused. So this is the time you all to voice your view. Do you think Philadelphia should keep his statue up? Or should they remove it ? I can't wait to hear from you all!

America, I wasn't in this country during the time Frank Rizzo was mayor, but the horror stories I here like he would sick police dogs on black children, In a neighborhood beset by poverty & isolated by disinvestment, Rizzo police were not there to protect & serve. They were there to maintain systemic racism. They were there to convince us that we were worthless. The man been dead for decades but his influence and legacy is just as alive today then ever. Here's the kicker I don't want this statue to remain in our downtown district, I think that slaps the face of any community without the country. I man remembers as a crowd gathered around him, watching the beating play out amid the man's screams, the hood of the white car turned red with the black man's blood! Now I'm play god's advocate for a minute. while many against what he was about , well there was some say he did good things for blacks & brown folks. Check it out, As a cop, Rizzo raided gay clubs because he & most Philadelphian's then didn't understand gays. In 1975 Frank Rizzo pushed for legislation to protect gays, Philadelphia Gay News Publish Mark Segal reminds me.
A man say I knew Rizzo. I liked his bigger-than-life persona, even while being uncomfortable with some of what he did & said. He was quote machine & hardly ever used the phrase " Off The Record". many continue to defend his character and his legacy for my city back then.

As I said the other day in another thread, in the UK the activists are now saying they want Nelsons column in trafalgar square taken down due to his use of slavery.
You can tare down every statue, monument, government building, every road sign and remove every piece of literature but you will never change history. If they want to live like that then go live with fat boy in nk!

Well we would have to get rid of our presidential monumens as well here. The presidents own slaves. Should thr Thomas Jefferson train stop be changed? Should the Ben Franklin museum and the bridge downtown should be eliminated? Should the independence hall on 6th & market streets be changed? Lets think about that for a minute.

I agree with you mike, yet there is some process and some one who decides what is 'worthy' of a statue, why not decisions about which statues are no longer 'worthy'?

I can't see how a statue can become "unworthy "msharmony? History hasn't changed has it? Maybe these people should be looking closer to home and get that sorted before worrying about a statue!

easy, just choose the opposite of whatever made it 'worthy'

if there is a statue of a black person erected during the time of slavery,, should it remain there indefinitely? even after a general concensus is reached that hanging black people is not admirable anymore?


there are plenty of issues to be dealt with, and enough people to deal with more than one issue,, simultaneously

it would be HILARIOUS if one of those 'tricks' was to keep people off of real news by putting out that it is 'fake' or just a 'distraction'...

that would be my guess... the CIA has lots of little tricks like this to keep other things away from the media...

um... i don't think they care about "real" news anymore, since just about everyone knows it isn't real...
