for those it applies to in the here and now, possibly if a process that would apply to those and only those that currently fit into this profile and not become a cart blanche for any and all minors like the currently overly abused anchor baby law
I think compassion and common sense are called for.
As well as a clear goal, is it just to have documents on every non american and punish and throw out any non american without them
or is there actually an interest in a greater safety or greater good?
IF it is the former, I feel sorry for what our culture has become if the goal is merely the former.
If it is the latter than the cases need to be taken on their individual merits, just like in our criminal system, and not all lumped together.
Mitigating circumstances should not have the SAME outcome as outright disrespect of the law. And I feel being brought here before legal age of consent(with no consent possible and no culpability to enter contracts) is a mitigating circumstance that warrants more of a review than mere presence of the right documents.
If that person has remained into adulthood without being arrested or charged with a crime,
if that person has not been on assistance as an adult and has worked
if that person has worked in charity or civil service
these are all things, to me, that negate concern for 'safety' where that person is concerned, and which warrant them 'earning' a right to remain and having some option to enter a contract stating so without fear of deportation
