"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best," he said, before adding, "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."
,,,imagine if any other world leader would say, "when America sends its people, theyre not sending their most respectful, theyre bringing violence, disrespect, lewdness, and some, I assume, are good people."
blanket statements describing most of a group in negative terms can be easily interpreted as bigoted or racist.
calling countries on Africas continent 'shithole' countries, or calling for complete shutdown on MUSLIMS entering the country, or being sued and settling with the justice department for housing discrimination may be some of the reasons people believe he is racist, to name a few.
I happen to believe he is just ignorant and an opportunist who says what his base will get behind. I doubt he has much of ANY experience with or around anyone other than the financial elite to even have a REAL belief or knowledge about any demographic except other rich white males.
That's exactly your problem, you "interpret" what others say rather than actually hearing them. Are you saying MS-13 are their best? Are you saying we should never do background checks on people entering the US? Your entire preface is wrong on this topic, you are looking for racism so you are projecting it. Are the worst of the worse come over the boarder? YES!! Does that mean it is EVERYONE as you "interpret" it? NO!! In fact it isolates a group of them rather than saying a blanket statement, even you went on a rant about how people don't pick up on certain words and misunderstand, but you can't see that is what YOU are doing.
I said clearly and plainly what I meant to say. I explained that statements on both sides 'america was never THAT great' and 'these people are animals', because they are so non concise, can be easily torn apart and disected on BOTH sides. Everybody 'interprets' what others say in politics. it is why a thread is made about someone saying america was never 'that great'
that was exactly the point.
President was not specifically asked about MS13, there was only a brief hypothetical of AN MS13 member in the preceding monologue of a question. He COULD Have been referring to MS13. His history would make it easy to believe he was not being that specific since he already made previous statements about how only 'SOME" mexicans might be 'decent' without any mention of MS13 in that question. But giving him the benefit, that he MAY have been specifically referring to MS13 members. The way he phrased it is just non specific enough and general enough that it can be picked apart.
I am not looking for racism. Others are looking for an argument. I am contributing a logical observation about how statements about ANYTHING (race or nation) can be disected and 'interpreted' differently depending upon which side of the aisle people fall on on the political spectrum compared to the SPEAKER.
people DO pick up on certain words, like PEOPLE and ANIMALS (not people in MS13, but just PEOPLE) and America and not that great(not America not as great for EVERYBODY as some people pretend it is)
I am doing nothing but pointing out the practice, I have not taken a stance either way, except to say I understand how both sides of the aisle often interpret with certain biases.
