I would not consider North Korea a pure communist society. It does allow a few people to receive some benefit outside of the state - there are some black markets. Also it does not distribute to the people based on their needs since much of the earnings the country has are spent for their military while part of the population doers not have the basics. It is basically a dictatorship held within a family structure by force and for the benefit of the family and government officials.
