Having just watched this movie with a seriously PO grizzly bear, and some gruelling shots of what it does...

why not climb a tree to get away from it?
I know the advice with bears it to not do that, but doesn't that just go for black bears who can climb fast and easily?
Grizzly cannot really climb easily, so wouldn't that be a thing to do or is there still a chance it will get up in a tree?

looks like it climbs just fine.

it doesn't climb usually because they are bigger than most opponents and are more aggressive with great strength and Freddy Kruegar-like claws.

Grizzly Bears are not big climbers but they can climb.. Grizzly's tend to stand their ground so if you climb a tree it may not climb after you but.... they are determined enough to stay at the bottom of that tree till you come down..

Wild hogs can't climb either but you go to grab one of their babies and watch them stay at the bottom of the tree if you climb it to get away, they will stay there for a couple days..

I worked with a guy, that actually happened to him and he was in the tree for 2 days before the wild hog would leave the spot in order for him to get down..

He was crossing over from Mexico when it happened...thought he would grab him a baby hog to eat... slaphead

The waiting crossed my mind. I didn't know about a wild hog, but I did figure a bear wouldn't give up easily.

They say it is good to wear noisemakers, bells, etc. -carry bear spray.... but I had an idea for bear snacks with tranquilizers in them. Climb a tree -throw it down and wait.

You have an easier option...always go into the wood with another person...

that way you don't have to outrun the bear...you just have to outrun them.

Hahahaha, if the other person had the same policy I'd likely be bleeped... I cannot run that fast, nor for that long.

Wouldn't that just P them O???
And bear spray, this girl used it in the movie I watched, and had me wondering if that really worked?
Maybe the spiked snacks would be better, but I'm not sure I can climb a tree hahaha. I'd just be in big chit. Thank goodness in that sense we have no bears here anymore, and I don't think we ever had grizzlies.

I must admit that if I was to go hiking in the US I'd only want to go with a rifle that could kill a bear/grizzly. And someone to go with me who could handle its recoil, haha. And who would of course not leave me standing there and do a runner, but someone who could keep his cool.

oh contrae. Grizzlies are incredibly powerful, fast, and can absolutely climb a tree. I personally hope I spotted the :bear: before it spotted me. I'm a retired Airborne Ranger and can shoot move and communicate but A 700 pound grizzly charging you at 35 mph. you better have at least a 454 Caskul and a change of underwear

oh geez Crystal, what are you planning? lol My son and his wife did
a several day survivalist hike through the appalachian and ran into a
few black bears, one was particularly larger and keeps getting larger
every time they tell the story. Iā€™d prefer not to ever have to find out
about out maneuvering a grizzly.

Hihi, not planning anything apart from staying far away from any bear country!
Love how the black bear keeps getting bigger, haha.

They usually only attack when surprised -or really hungry -otherwise they tend to avoid humans unless habituated. The noisemakers usually get them to go in a different direction or just not be as surprised so they don't feel threatened.

Why do they have to be so cute?

I'm glad there are no bears in australia because I love the outdoors. I like guns but carrying a .454 / .460 iron all day would weigh me down a bit.

The tranquiliser snack idea may work if you are lucky, but snacks will attract them in the first place. I wonder if pepper spray would just make them angry, and hungry.
Maybe a pot of honey, it works on Winny the Poo.

Thanks! And yes, they look cute, especially polar bears and these are even worse, hihi. The other day I was listening to David Attenborough saying polar bears sometimes actually hunt human beings!?!

Plenty of other things in Oz to worry about though, hihi. Like huge salties.
