Soon government intends to implement the QR code for supermarket access.
So much for free choice...

Today I've started with getting a lot of groceries in so I have a bit of basic stock of food, catfood, bog roll etc. Not nearly enough to last me a month, but I still can order food. Thing is, your order isn't always complete when something is out of stock and you don't know upfront if and what that will be.
I can not go a day without coffee, or bog roll hihi, so I want my own stock just in case.

But the fact that government claims the right to deny people access to the supermarket to get food is insane!
It used to be they aren't ever allowed to cut you off from the basic, primary necessities of life like water & gas. I believe electricity was allowed.
But now food? So you can have gas to cook, but no proper access to food.

I've asked several times since this pandemic began, "has anyone that works here gotten ill?" Just out of curiosity as they're exposed to hundreds of people a day and since this is tourist area, these come from my country but also loads of Germans and some Belgians.
Each time I asked the answer was, "Nope."
So the chance of getting infected there is zilch.

Anywho... is this happening in your country or state?
If I'm correct the US is doing great after a long period of high numbers of new cases?

here in the U.S., things are better, even though you may be getting a different story from the fake news peddlers. Cases are way down…. As to the issue of banning people from purchasing food to survive, not so bold as to implement such a policy yet.. but our powers that be have enforced policies that require employers to terminate employees that haven’t been vaccinated which is the same thing… no money no food! There is plenty of push back from conservative congress and millions of citizens. It remains to be seen as to which way the wind blows…

Oh yes, the employees situation... we're getting that here too, also soon. There's no doubt about that. Which indeed is another great one for many people.
Affects both my kids who also aren't vaccinated.

Thank you for the feedback! Interesting to hear directly from people what's going on :)

Is this in the entire US or states? (over here everything is nation-wide)

In Malaysia, you must use a phone app to scan QR code at every establishment you go to, including public toilets. And access to most places require you to be fully vaccinated with a digital certificate. It's been implemented sice the start of the pandemic. So far there has not been shortage of food and supplies. Cases have gone down dramatically, but social distancing and masks are still mandatory indoors or outdoors everywhere.

But though all economic sectors are open and running again, many are still jobless because they have been laid off or their businesses badly affected.

thank god we have some republican Governors.. I.e. Texas, Florida .. that refuse to accept those mandates in their state…all this while thousands of illegal immigrants are secretly flown into different states.( these flights tend to make their runs in between 1am to 4am) that’s why we don’t see them crowded under that border bridge anymore.

I was in the grocery store today. I never saw the shelves so well stocked. I also know the best times of the day to go when there are the least amount of people. In the US, I think mandates are different state to state, and even county to county in each state.

They are not secretly flown if you know that they are flown. whoa

the reason it’s known now is because of actual news reporters responding to reports of flights landing and unloading 100s of people putting them on buses and delivering them to motels and hotels around the country. If they weren’t trying to do it secretly why didn’t They inform the state or city where where these flights were landing?

Wow, I didn't know it was that bad over there as well!
So without this QR code you cannot go into a supermarket either, not to work?

I can imagine things must be dire for many if they implemented this that early on!
We have no shortages here either btw, never had. Plenty of food and things, plenty of jobs too. But with people not being able to go to work soon... probably going to be more available jobs real soon.
My daughter could still work from home, but my son will be in trouble. He works in a restaurant as a cook.

Let's pray this lunacy will end soon!

Thank you for your feedback, Ave. Good to hear from that side of the world too.

I thought it would be as you say in the US. But what is it like where you live, Cat? Do you need QR codes to get into shops and restaurants etc.?

Ah, so the republican states are (can be) different. Kind of weird as I would've thought it to be the other way round.

Is religion also an valid argument there (in the US) to not get vaccinated btw? As over here that used to be. For instance people in the Dutch bible belts never go for any vaccination. That includes stuff like measles etc.
But I think government is finding a way to force them regardless. But not sure, I'd have to check.
How about that in the US?

I would love to see that evidence too Dodo.

I checked the govt site and the Netherlands corona pass applies to
... “entrance to restaurants and cafes, bars and nightclubs, hotels, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, events and festivals (indoor and outdoor), and professional sporting events.”

“Either proof of vaccination, recovery from Covid or a negative test result” is required for entry to above

There was no mention at all of restrictions on essential services such as supermarkets .

There was a comment stating from the 25 Sept almost all social distancing measures were dropped . However , the Netherlands are now back in a partial lockdown due to increasing number of infections .

Denmark are in a similar situation and have reintroduced their covid pass requirements .

Austria have initiated a lockdown of those who are not vaccinated .

Germany’s health system is starting to be overwhelmed . In fact most of Europe seems to be experiencing high infection rates and winter has not yet started .

As for NZ .. it is anticipated once we reach 90% of our eligible population “ fully vaccinated” .. a new framework which includes vaccine certificates will commence . We are currently sitting at 81% fully vaccinated and 90% have had at least one dose . Not far to go .

Even though it's admirable you made the effort to look things up, this topic is not about attempting to discredit me.

This topic is about interest in what's going on in other member's country.
So I'm telling what's going on here in my country, and what is to come soon, and asking what the situation in your country or state is.
Which for you would mean telling what's going on in NZ, not what's going on in my country. I already know that, I live here :)

Wonder if still valid in Austria?

An Austrian are at it again... Not nice in Austrians stores first to trying implement forced vaccination from 1 February whish is not democratic to say the least.
See: https://youtu.be/WvT6ezWWCow?t=253

My thoughts and prays goes to the Austrians.

The logic is basically... The "protected" need to be protected against the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to use the protection that did not protect the protected.

Sadly it is clear the vaccines even in places with high vaccination grade don´t work. https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/worlds-most-vaccinated-region-cancels-christmas-for-drastic-rise-in-covid-cases/

couldn't agree with you more, especially the part I made bold.
It's all senseless.
Like tonight... I went to get a take away for which I had to enter and walk through the pizzeria.
Then I was asked for the QR code AFTER I had paid (wankers) and I had to wait outside. They brought me my meal when it was done.
But... THey themselves walked in and out through the entire restaurant WITHOUT a facemask which if memory serves is not allowed? Yet I need to show some stupid code on a phone at the counter in the middle of the restaurant.
Would make more sense to ask at the entrance BEFORE people have ordered & paid, and to have the employees wear masks too, if they pretend to follow the useless rules.

It's an insane world, and I fear it will get worse before it gets better.

I'll check the links tomorrow.

Hopefully you have been misinformed about needing QR codes for the supermarkets and that will not happen?
But I think stocking up on essentials is a good thing, especially if you happen to catch Covid. Because you would have to self isolate for weeks.

In New Zealand they have just started rolling out the QR code, which will be needed to go to concerts, etc. Summer is practically here now. I can get back to you if you want to know what our QR codes are used for?
