You don't have to be religious to see that and to be fair people often feel lost when life is kicking them.

There will always be people in and out of religion that manipulate others.

I don't anything wrong with having goals in this life.

If god is defined so as to have no observable manifestations, then it makes no sense to say anything about such proposed entity. Or if god has observable manifestations, then god's existence is an empirical matter, and such an extraordinary hypothesis requires extraordinarily strong empirical evidence to support it. 

God is not a body. He is strong power creates the universe. We know Him by mind and by His effects. You lives by your soul which is not seen but it is real. When you lose it you die.

Basically this is saying if you believe something it must be true, that we should throw out all logic and believe in fairy tales. Mary was certainly not a "virgin". Just for "make believe" sake let's pretend there is a "god" which in most likely hood would have absolutely no human like qualities as he would have existed long before any humans would have ever existed. Now why this "god" would have "created" Jesus as the messenger is very far fetched. There are plenty of religions that started long before Christianity and yet there are many that believe only in the stories that have been created in the last 2000 years. Jesus pretty much sold snake oil to not very bright people, basically he practiced witch craft, a scam artist, and there was good reason to crucify him as was pretty common practice of the time. He was not all that special, could pretty much compare him to what Hitler was trying to do but in a more advanced time. Religion is power, the bigger the group you can obtain the more power (control) you can have, so they form a pyramid scheme where they get lower level people to recruit more people. This is done with false promises (just like politics). Sure Santa and the Easter Bunny are real, but then you are one day disappointed when you wake up and there are no presents or Easter baskets. Ironically these holidays have been highjacked by Christians. Jesus is not the "reason for the season". Has nothing to do with his birthday, just away to promote their religion by altering others beliefs. It's all a fairy tail writen by not so special people over time that has come to be believed by many people as fact when it is clearly fiction. Not that religion doesn't have some good points, as does government, but along with the good comes some bad things. It's not bad to pretend you are living in a fairytale as long as you know it's just a fairy tail.

Scammers know no bounds in devicing means specially designed to squeeze out money out of the pockets of their followers, more so, they have conviniently created schemes to carry out their illegal trade under the guise of religion.

Faith is such a powerful motivator, but when a healthy dose of gullibilty meets with a significantly charismatic and dramatic fellow, you've got one big mess!

How This Scam Works
Religious scammers often exploit the gullibility of unsuspecting followers by brandishing the Bible or Quran or any other Holy book for that matter and quoting texts and  verses thereof, in a desperate attempt to make them (their followers) believe that blessings, riches, forgiveness, prosperity, health, success and in fact, all good things will come to them ONLY IF they part with their money or property.
They search the scriptures, looking for quotable quotes that can be used to make merchandise of men. Some of their favourites are those scriptures dealing with giving first-fruits to priests.
Sometimes, such scammers threaten that God will take away even the little they (their followers) have or even visit them with calamities if they don't obey and surrender their money.
They sell out healing oils, 'Blessed water', 'Annointed' handkerchief, 'Sleep well' Pillows, Stickers for protection etc. at high prices.
There is the "ember-month spirit" fallacy which has been widely propagated by religious scammers which involves frightening followers with death, accidents or other vices if they don't pay to 'god' for deliverance.

Warning Signs
When your religious leader is always overly eager to preach about giving out your money or properties.
The religious leader lives an elaborate or expensive lifestyle while members of the same flock or the immediate community languish in poverty and want.
When your religious leader starts offering Financial or Investment advice to followers. The spiritual house ought to be a place of worship and not a financial advisory body or an investment house.

How To Protect Yourself
Study any Holy book applicable to you, in order to know the real truth so you wouldn't be deceived.
When in doubt of an investment scheme introduced by your religious leader, contact your financial advisor or a trusted family member or friend for clarification.
Apply logic and reason before swallowing - hook, line, and sinker all stories told by a religious leader before taking actions.

The believer does not need the details of the religion, as this is the task of elite clerics, because the monotheistic religions are clear and depend on belief in the existence of God the Creator, the prophets, and the holy books. The teachings of religions command the believer to be a good man and to stay away from Satan, evil deeds and committing sins. And if he sinned, he have to repent. He must worship God alone, for He is the Forgiver of sins. Worship is a heartfelt relationship between a person and God, and it is acceptable as long as it is done with a sincere intention, whether a person is praying at home, in a church, or in a mosque.
Trust in the Character of God
Two questions inevitably come up in talking about confessing our sins to God:
1. How do I know if/when God has forgiven me? Will I feel forgiven?
2. Have I done enough to deserve God’s forgiveness? Am I sorry enough? Just tell me what to do!
Let’s go back to 1 John 1:9:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We find the answer to both questions, not in us and what we are doing, but in the character of God.
