Hi, I have learned a lot about people and myself by trying this online forum. I have connected with 3 people off dating sites and 3 off TikTok. All 6 have been liars, scammers, and have used photos easily available online. These are actually the only 6 that I’ve spent any time with getting to know them. It’s demeaning and heartbreaking. Be vigilant and don’t be afraid to confront them when you discover the discrepancies. It sucks and takes every bit of self esteem right out of you. I think I have a target being older and a widow. I’ve lost a lot of faith in humanity but there is 1 chance out of the thousands of people on these sites. I hope to find that ONE.

You must exercise due diligence.

It is pretty much an anonymous venue so scammers
feel invited to spread their evil.

You might try enjoining the Forums where identities
tend to be revealed.

If they seem too good to be true that is your
instinct coming to the fore.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers on this site.

A few things to look for:

1. They want to take the discussion off Mingle very quickly.

2. They say they love you, well before they know you.

3. They use well-known methods to try to scam you. For example, the latest attempt to scam me used the classic "I have money coming in, but I don't want to pay 40% in fees (or taxes or ...) so why don't you take the payment and pay me the amount less some lower percentage." Of course, if you accept the offer, you are guilty of tax evasion or money laundering or ... Naturally, if you actually get a check, it will bounce sky high.

4. Others ask for money because they have some unexpected expenses or are waiting for some soon-to-arrive money.

5. Others want pictures of you, wholly or partially naked. The probable intent is blackmail.

BTW, all of the above has happened to me. Fortunately, I didn't fall for them.

To all of you who read this: please contribute more examples of scams. After all, I have been on this site for less than a year, so my experiences probably don't cover more than a small fraction of the scamming methods.

In principle, I agree. Unfortunately, most attempts occur after the conversation has gone off Mingle, so there's no on-Mingle evidence. After all, many scammers aren't fools; they "just" have a severe lack of ethics.

If their profile is still active on M2, then you can block and report from the DM and check offline behavior.

If this site actually cared about the people then yes this would work, but the scammers are probably the only ones paying for this free site so they don't seem to want to get rid of them. I almost think that the scammers are the ones who are running the site now...lol
Even if you do block that one profile, they have 20 other profiles running and probably more in the works... It is just a game of Whack-a-mole you get to play while looking for someone real on here...lol

I forgot to mention that a warning sign is when several different profiles claim to come from one small town. An example I encountered is that about 10 profiles claimed to be from Almont, Colorado. When I looked up Almont, Colorado, on Google, I found two population counts, 423 and 194. It is extremely unlikely that a significant fraction (between 2.5 and 5 percent, or between 1 in 40 and 1 in 20) of Almont's population a) is female, b) is on Mingle, and c) is in the age range I'm looking for or expressed an interest in me.

that is the beauty of it for them.

I have been seeing a bunch of the same scammers that when they "liked" my profile, their picture is not blurred out. So I figured that must be a benefit for paying for this site vs just being free. Or is there another reason their pictures do not get blurred in the liked section? Their name is still just the first and last letters...

The blurring of the photo depends on what type of photo is uploaded.
Depending on the software used to blur the photos, jpeg, png, bmt, tiff and others may not be able to be blurred.

A while back l had an in-country scammer that was using their real ID as a defense against any possible police prosecution ...BUT her photo was taken at a distance wearing large sunglass's to make it impossible to see her face ...and she is still operating on this site.

I read somewhere on this site that, if you look at the profile of a person and that person has significantly more pictures in their profile than you have in yours, the excess is blurred. For example, I have only one picture in my profile and, at most, I can see two pictures on the other profile.

BTW, this is a fairly new change. At times, I wonder whether the owners and administrators have the users' interest in mind. Of course, in an ideal world, that's what would be their highest priority.

hey Donna im sorry to hear that you went thru that its absolutely shocking i dont know what the scammers get out of it its I've lost count over the years how many its happened to me hack my phone steal pictures change function in my phone just from a phone number or email address they can turn your life upside down dont know how they do it , dont feel bad cause you got scammed feel bad for the scammers that they have to stup so low in life and thiev personal information so they can get a dollar or to make themselves feel good, I think someone needs to open up a chat room here so people can post profiles of the scammers when they get scammed so other people can see there name and photo

I second that idea. Unfortunately, implementing the idea may lead to legal consequences for the owners and administrators, should some innocent party's profile be posted on such a chat room.

If you have less then 3 photos on your profile the other persons photos after 2 will be that way.

That must be why some profiles haves a bunch of the same picture or random pictures (chair, dog, food, whatever).

I have several photos, none are blurred, photos should help paint a picture of who you are in my opinion. After exchanging a few emails here with someone, suggest a video call if you feel comfortable with it, scammers will not want that so should help you filtering them out. Good luck in your search.
