Let's go past Afformative Action. How many tv networks amd award shows are blacks only? If whites did it....racist. What about Jews, Asians, etc?

If someone wants equality, it needs to be equal

I know of no network that is 'blacks only'

I know of a handful of shows with an all black cast, but far fewer than those with all white.

That is attempting to make things equal BECAUSE the majority of those in show biz, running show biz, and represented in show biz are white.

Of course white being the majority that is not an issue, except for those who are not white and looking for something that represents them as well. That is when the other networks come in catering to 'underrepresented' minorities but still INCLUDING everyone.

If a television company was to start a " White Entertainment Network, they would be fired, run out of town, banned from all entertainment societies, and ridiculed in the press.

Their careers would be over.

But BET can do it ( Their official company slogan is "yes to black")and they get a standing ovation and awards.

White Entertainment Network " yes to white"...

there would be riots in the streets...

the name WET would be really wiping peoples noses in the obvious since broadcasting historically in this country has been for WHITE ENTERTAINMENT

BET is so named because black people have a harder time finding entertainment or news that shows other black people by just searching the mainstream


The same reason we have an NBA(historically men) and a WNBA (for women interested in an area traditionally marketed for and to men)

How is that not hypocrisy and discrimination? Again...want to be equal, promote equality

it is not hypocrisy merely because of a name

it still represents what it represents, the mainstream represents the MAJORITY white population

BET represents those not in the MAJORITY and therefore underrepresented in mainstream

noone suggested everyone get the same wage for the same job either. I was responding to many other points in this thread by the way. I post to what is being posted.

my point is not that every job should earn the same wage. My point is that those making profit get carried away at how much MORE profit they can make for their million dollar incomes while continuing to figure out how to pay those workers the least they can ...

they get their chance to go from doing well to doing even better, while those working get to argue about the opportunity to just do for 'anything'

Well, the last time I looked this was America and you do have chances and opportunity to work your way up, unlike many other countries.

And for those who do, they get more money. Those who do not.. don't

The American way... go out and get it.. it ain't gonna fall in your lap.

I for one, worked my way up and I for one will share my money with whom I chose to... not whom other people decide for me.

After all.. its my money isn't it?.. I earned it.. the hard way.. I worked for it.

And for those who don't understand.. start a business.. pay all the taxes, benefits, medical. Deal with all the stress of competition, rising costs across the board,, market trends, work 7 days a week, late hours, worry, ect, ect.

I am sure you would hold a very different perspective.

If it wasn't for 2 words. .. minority and majority it wouldn't be a problem, people would accept there place in society and get on with it!

historically, the majority of the population will have ample representation in its media and its culture

which means that those not in the majority will either have to somehow FORCE the majority to represent them accurately or choose to find a way to represent themselves

I find no issue with the latter

americans mostly speak english, but many here speak other languages, so they have their own channels for that audience that speaks a different language than the mainstream, its not DISCRIMINATING against english speakers its creating a place non english speakers didn't have before

basketball has historically represented men playing basketball, but more and more female enjoy basketball, so they created a league where they can play ,,, its not discriminating against men, its creating a place that women didn't have to play basketball

etc,,, etc,,,,

its more entertainment options for people who may not be part of the normal MAINSTREAM that is already widely represented(as it should be as well)

Not at all, it's stupid people who need to pidgin hole everyone that are the problem. people should just be people, not something that some do gooding leftie has labeled them as!
